Not more time today... It is not elegant, but it "survive" restarts... I added it to an "application at startup" script I use from time to time, which runs from /usr/local/bin with udiskctl commands to mount some drives....:
xrandr --newmode "1680x1050_60.00" 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050_60.00 BUT it throws an ugly error... I would keep investigating and reporting my findings, if you find them useful!
