I use Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 on my EeePC 701 and it works great. One thing you should be careful about, depending on your exact model, is the size of the hard disk. Mine has a 4GB SSD and it works but there's not much space left after installing UNR. Anything above 4GB should have no problem.
