From their site: The mobile baseband will most likely use ROM loaded firmware, but a free software kernel driver. We intend to invest time and money toward freeing any non-free firmware. As the final specs are not finalised, they probably can't tell you exactly which firmware it would be, but it seems there's a good chance that may end up being the only closed code on the phone. Also, the baseband is separated from the CPU, for maximum privacy. The baseband, WiFi/BT, camera and microphone all have hardware kill switches too, so you can disable them when not in use.
