Hey everyone.
I really like this idea. It will allow unofficial clients to get
notifications from online services which is for me one of the most
important problems of the platform right now.
To name another example, Ubuntu Hangups would be able to show
notifications if this proposal gets realized.
This would also solve

All the best,
Tim

Hi all!
I've been working on a document describing a proposal on how to change
account-polld (the background service taking care of GMail, Twitter and
other notifications) to allow click packages to extend it by providing
their own polling plugins.
One example of apps which would benefit from this is Dekko, which
already includes code to poll IMAP and POP3 accounts and that could be
made to run periodically to check for new e-mail.
Please feel free to comment:

I'm especially interested in hearing from the security team, if they
could have a quick review of the proposed changes.
Ciao,
Alberto
