Alright Oliver, (after all it is just QML I bet a community contributed patch to add > these controls to the circle would be very appreciated *hint* > *hint* ;) ...) >
Why on earth do you first invest four paragraphs essentially saying "your ideas, guys, are BS" when you could simply say "contributions welcome" and "I'm ready to support that idea at Canonical", plus "here's how I think someone should do it in order to have it accepted"? What's the point in saying, "I don't like your ideas, but if you do it for free who cares"? I do believe there are enough gifted and/or enthusiastic developers here on the list that would love to get appreciated, but if people who seem to represent Canonical don't care to find the right words ... would *you* invest your time *anyway*? Granted, you're not the community coordinator (is it David?). But if Canonical really wants contributions, which could be essential to save time and get features done, why not create a climate that is sufficiently welcoming for participating instead? Read the comments on http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/07/ubuntu-touch-lock-screen-concept, for example: "Canonical, as usual, will be raising their middle finger to the community, and continue with their design." --- Not nice. What do you expect from the community if you support this impression in the public? I'd rather put a product backlog out there and find ways to motivate people who are criticizing to pull a ticket.
