Hello Matthias, I currently don't have my Ubuntu Touch device with me which is why I cannot try your guide. However, AFAIK, what you describe should not work on an SD card. Or, to be more precice, it does not work on an SD-card formatted with FAT32.
For my guide, I assumed that most people would like their SD-cards to be formatted with FAT32 (to stay compatible with Windows devices and phones that do not understand ext file systems). Forthermore, the last time I tried, Ubuntu Touch did not accept an SD-card that was formatted with ext3, it required the FAT32 file system (tested on a BQ4.5 running r22 or r23 at the time). Many programmes probably work on a FAT32 file system, but I generally don't feel well at all running GNU/Linux on a file system that does not understand permissions (such as NTFS or FAT32). The problem here is that some cli programmes (such as ssh) require certain files to have certain permissions, but permissions are only emulated on a FAT32 file system. AFAIK, all files and directories will have the same emulated permissions rendering ssh useless. Furthermore, as FAT32 does support neither hard nor soft links [citation needed], some programmes might not work. As I personally make heavy use of them (well, the latter), I would never be able to enjoy a system that does not support them. All this is only to the best of my knowledge. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Cheers, Torsten On Fri, 25 Sep 2015, Matthias Apitz wrote:
