To avoid a possible misunderstanding:
The text hints get displayed during "normal", daily operation after the initial tutorial
until the user deactivates them in the system settings or is asked whether he wants
to do so after a few tens/hundred such gestures.
I edited the Imgur image descriptions to reflect this, too.
