I think we should maintain support for lucene2 for the time being in which case having liblucene3-java does make sense which some good conflicts (but they may not be required). FYI packaging on lucene3 has been started in Debian: svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-java/trunk/lucene3/ However this has been stalled for some time and the ITP owner has just stood down from packaging in Debian. Whatever we do in Ubuntu we should make sure we are collaborating with the Debian Java - the Java delta between Ubuntu and Debian is minimal and we should try to keep it that way.
