You can track the status of the merge at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/miro/+bug/411110 Opening bugs in Launchpad is usually faster and a better approach than the mailing list - even without packaging experience, there's lot that can be done with a good bug report ;) In that case, it was easy enough. You can find good help on #ubuntu-bugs (IRC - Freenode) for help in the bug filling process.
