I guess you're confusing stable release updates with backports here. Stable 
release updates are good to fix bugs present in the stable version, while 
backports are good to provide newer versions of software to stable releases. 
Hence a stable release update should be as minimal as possible, fixing only 
the bug in question. Because of that, a new upstream version is usually not 
accepted as a SRU.

Same as above, cleanup work or anything not affecting a particular bug should 
not get introduced in a stable release update.

For this reason, I've invalidated the aforementioned bug.

Now the big question: What can you do to provide a backport? (Sorry, don't 
have any knowledge about the backports policy myself, but I'm sure someone 
else on this list will know ;).
