Many thanks to those that have helped from the Web Presence team & the California team. A solution has been provided that will work with our beloved wiki as well as facebook. Stas Sușcov's semi-official application was announced http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/04/ubuntu-countdown-banner-for-your.html and is deployed so that these links will work for wiki pages that want to display the last days of our countdown:
