Greetings,

Just over a week ago, I launched a website called The Ubuntu Counter
Project (http://ubuntucounter.geekosophical.net).

The initial aim of the counter was the novelty of a non-official user
number that people could put on their websites/blogs, forum sigs, email
sigs etc. Basically, it was a 'fun' project for me.

It took off. Like a rocket, I may add. In the past 8 days there have
been almost 70000 unique visitors. Some figures from awstats follow:

Unique visitors 69920
Number of visits 90065 (1.28 visits/visitor)
Pages 361552 (4.01 pages/visit)

Of these visitors, 3711 users have registered 5717 machines.

The Counter has been through a digg.com digging, been added to the
Ubuntu Wikipedia page and has been mentioned on newsforge.com and
countless blogs.

I do not yet know what potential the site holds in terms of long-term
statistics, but the current ones are quite intriguing. I've started
doing weekly statistic snapshots for purposes of growth and to monitor
version/variant popularity as such. There's only one up so far, but then
again, it's only one week since launch.

Anyway, I hope you find the stats useful.
