I think that's a great idea. It's always nice to find out your not the only LGBT person when you join a community. The Drupal community has an LGBT group (https://groups.drupal.org/drupal-rainbow) that has BoF sessions at the conferences and camps.
Participating in Pride is an interesting idea. I haven't been very involved with my local (Seattle) Ubuntu community, but it might be possible to collaborate with Queer Geek! for Seattle Pride next year.
