Do you have a separate home partition - this makes sure a) your user data is kept relatively safe from the OS and and needs to upgrade / change b) makes managing and backing up easier. To check if you have a separate home open a terminal (Applications -Accessories -Terminal ) and type -$ df -h (the -$ is indicative of the terminal prompt) in your result you should get something like $ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda7 22G 12G 8.2G 60% / udev 1.5G 320K 1.5G 1% /dev none 1.5G 420K 1.5G 1% /dev/shm none 1.5G 220K 1.5G 1% /var/run none 1.5G 4.0K 1.5G 1% /var/lock none 1.5G 0 1.5G 0% /lib/init/rw /dev/sda5 99M 79M 15M 85% /boot /dev/sda9 165G 112G 45G 72% /home as you can see the last line shows my /home - which also means its on a separate partition. *** If you want a good software to manage and access your pics try Try and install shotwell - its an amazing piece of software Meet Shotwell - The F-Spot Replacement For Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" http://www.techdrivein.com/2010/06/meet-shotwell-f-spot-replacement-for.html *** Language Depending on what other indian language you want to use (type in and / or log in in ) its quite easy to set up. If you ask आपको कोई एक हाउ टु भेज देगा। *** These are just a few nice things to make your Ubuntu experience even more enjoyable and the best way to get responses is to ask How about that "Ubuntu - Just Ask" ram
