Yep i agree Ubuntu is already automated quite a bit. However , for me personally the default Ubuntu does not work. I need to setup quite a few other things. The reason i like the script (in theory is) that it makes it possible to implement similar features over a set of computers. I think what the script aims to do is make it easier for people to do stuff in one go, provided they agree with the original sciipters choice of software.
