thanks sameep for your prompt response. Have already tried this age-old mac-technique. It shows me two volumes 'mac' and 'windows' even though there is only ubuntu on the hard-disk and UNR on the thumbdrive. On selecting 'windows' i only get the grub again, installed as it were on the hd. The thumbdrive is not sensed.
