The curtain on the lock screen is just for decoration. You don't have to drag up to get rid of it; you can also press Enter or Esc. Even better, you can immediately start typing your password. I like the curtain, but if you still don't, you can… sudo apt install unity-greeter Choose lightdm as default instead of gdm3 and reboot. unity-greeter powered by lightdm is the default login screen manager provided in the default Ubuntu (Unity) flavor. It might not integrate as well with GNOME Shell but I haven't tried it recently.
