The procedure for updating Ubuntu packages in released versions is
called SRU and is described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.

It requires boring paperwork (filing bugs on Launchpad, testing updated
packages), so it's best done by someone who really wants the bug to be
fixed (e.g. you ;).

It's very good to know it's already fixed in 16.10 (that's a requirement
before asking for a SRU)!
