Interesting!  Yes I can see the potential of integrating some of the
disparate information.

I'm glad you shared this, as I've been working on version handling in
python for another project, and was considering a reimplementation of
pkg-versions to python to leverage that work, but you've already done
the bulk of that conversion with gu-qvs.
