That's like saying we have the equivalent of MS Office. We don't. We have text editors, highly professional systems like LaTeX, and a the somewhat-adequate OO.org, but neither is really satisfying as a MS Office replacement. > An easy to use one that comes to mind is > called "simple backup". In the backup space we have the complex professional systems that don't really work for non-expert desktop users, and we have total crap like sbackup which does not even satisfy modest requirements such as having the option of not gzipping huge media files. And deja-dup is also too simplistic in my desktop experience. Our best bet for a good desktop backup system is "Back in Time", but that's not even installed by default and has rough edges, too. I agree very much with the OP that Ubuntu should have an excellent desktop backup tool installed by default, ideally integrated with UbuntuOne if the user wants offsite backup, and frankly I am amazed that it still doesn't (but leadership finds the time to mess with CSD) -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
