I was thinking how forcing annoying changes while failing to fix severe bugs reported since years could speak for a distro.
But mostly everything relevant about system tray has already been raised in comments to http://design.canonical.com/2010/04/notification-area (There is no real problem that could not be fixed by a customizing feature and ubuntu defaults, without taking choice away.) Listen to the users' comments! Did anybody notice how everybody leaves a place for the ubuntu work to orbit in universe? Only thing I didn't find there: The notification of users seems really been broken since removing support for local email by default.
