Erm, it looks like /var/log/installer doesn't exist. Are those the
files you meant? Let me know if I ought to try a fresh install; I'll
have some time to do it over the weekend if necessary.

/var/log/apt/term.log is at http://www.rtfm.net/karmic/apt_term.log in
case that's of any use.
