That's why I ultimately decided to join the discussion. I wanted to provide a slightly more nuanced view of the situation: Mono as a good Wine-like interoperability effort, while not being an appropriate platform to base many default Ubuntu apps on (patent scares and cheap Windows-clone). First I thought I might wait a week until the discussion had died out, because of the inflammatory vibe going on, but then I thought it might defuse the situation to bring more nuance.
