Regarding the lockups, probably not.  But there have been complaints about the 
intel driver from quite a lot of folks, and I rather doubt all were using the 
same hardware.  Part of what you snipped included a list of workarounds that 
were being used to cover the range of regressions people have been 
experiencing.
