Hi Ian.
I can tell you, that from my experience getting a partition full will most 
probably make the OS unresponsive.
Making Home full, will give the user(s) really few options (I had to use root 
on a TTY to remove extra files, and then reboot).

Also running Gutsy with less then 5% disk, can make my laptop really, really, 
really slowwwwwwwwwwwww.
