I didn't know this ubuntu policy. Ubuntu shipped an RC version, and then is going to keep it for 6 months. You should ask gimp developers what they prefer! Even though I expect many of them to be reading this thread :) What if next release of gimp is close, for hoardy? Then will ubuntu release again the next RC? It seems like if gimp had a 6 months release cycle too, ubuntu would ship RC forever. This should not be the case - RCs shipped with ubuntu releases should be "promoted" to stable releases as soon as possible. Or else ubuntu stable releases should wait for stable of all projects, which is impossible.
