I would like to start a "ubuntu-emacs" mailing list, which would be the Ubuntu equivalent of the "debian-emacsen" mailing list. The idea is to provide a means for:
- coordinating work on (X)Emacs packages - discussing packaging policy for Emacs and Emacs Lisp add-ons - announcing new Emacs and Emacs add-on packages - providing upstream (X)Emacs and Emacs Lisp authors/contributors a place for making suggestions regarding the treatment of their software, as well as accommodating authors (or users) who wish to have a Ubuntu package made for their software - preserving the divergence of the emacs21, emacs-snapshot, and (presumably) emacs22 packages from Debian, namely: Emacs' GFDL'd documentation should be packaged along with Emacs. Having it in a separate package is disingenuous because of the level of integration in Emacs' internal documentation (for interactive functions and options) to the manuals which explain these features in greater detail It would also serve as a nexus for those who have an interest in making Ubuntu an excellent source for Emacs Lisp programs, and would complement the newly-created ubuntu-elisp group[1] on Launchpad. [1] https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-elisp/ I believe that there is a sufficiently large body of Emacs Lisp packages, and a sufficiently pressing need for Emacs and Emacs Lisp package maintainers to have a means for communication amongst themselves, that this merits having a separate mailing list. It is possible that I'm missing out on some other Ubuntu infrastructure feature that would better accomplish these goals, but mailing lists are the solution what I am most familiar with. -- Michael Olson -- FSF Associate Member #652 | http://mwolson.org/ -- Jabber: mwolson_at_hcoop.net | /` |\ | | | Sysadmin -- Hobbies: Lisp, GP2X, HCoop | |_] | \| |_| Projects: Emacs, Muse, ERC, EMMS, ErBot, DVC, Planner |
