Most of the concerns are obviated if we can ensure that users with the relevant packages installed have explicitly acknowledged that they're using a driver with a reduced guarantee of stability. * We will offer a different -experimental package for each Nvidia beta driver series, in order that users can opt into them independently. These packages will contain "experimental" in their names so that ubuntu-drivers-common can continue to filter on this substring. * Any nvidia or fglrx package forming part of this policy must present a suitable warning to users on initial installation. * If existing packages (nvidia-current-updates, fglrx-updates) wish to weaken their stability guarantee for SRUs, then measures must be taken to ensure that users have opted in, either by resetting existing users to nvidia-current etc. by way of update-manager, or by presenting a warning on upgrade, or both. * The SRU team may waive the usual one-week aging requirement for nvidia and fglrx updates/experimental packages, provided that a sufficient quantity and breadth of testing has been performed. * Updates for these packages may not necessarily come with the usual test cases in their SRU bugs. * While reports of regressions in proposed updates to these packages will be investigated with due diligence, they will not necessarily halt the release of updates, especially if those reports cannot be reproduced elsewhere. Since these are optional binary-only video drivers, there are practical limits to how much we can ensure that updates are regression-free in any event. * This is not a general policy; it applies only to the nvidia and fglrx driver update packages. * Transferring the kernel package set * https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/technical-board/2012-August/001363.html * Launchpad API limitations mean that we cannot currently change the owner of the current kernel package set, but there is a branch in progress to fix this.
