Leann -

FYI, I upgraded by laptop to the current Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha
version (Alpha 4). I did not use the CD, I manually upgraded. I also
selected the 2.6.27 kernel (currently 2.6.27-2).

The b43 driver works better in this kernel than any linux wireless
driver I have ever used for this chipset (03:00.0 Network controller:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g (rev 02)).

It has been (so far) consistently stable (the b43 driver, not the alpha
version of the OS :) ). It also has consistently performed at higher
speeds. Previous versions of the b43 driver would frequently operate at
speeds far below 54 Mbps. bcm43xx NEVER worked for me (on any kernel).
Various ndiswrapper versions have worked for me occasionally, but were
not consistently reliable. When I purchased this laptop, Gutsy Gibbon
was available. I attempted to use bcm43xx with Gutsy Gibbon.
ndiswrapper worked occasionally. b43 with the compat-pack worked, but
at sub-optimal performance. The results for all three drivers were the
same under Hardy Heron, using every kernel released.

This has been the first time that I have been able to use the b43 driver
without the compat-pack, and again, it works better than any wireless
driver that I have used on this chipset.

(Some relevant) System details:

HP dv9610us laptop
2 GB RAM (system comes with 1, not 2)
Broadcom BCM4313 802.11a/b/g (rev 02) wireless chipset
AMD Turion64X2 Processor
NVidia GeForce Go 7150M Graphics

current results of uname -a:
Linux <hostname> 2.6.27-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Aug 28 17:18:43 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

I have found bugs in Intrepid Ibex, but I cannot state if any of these
are kernel specific at this time. I will probably upgrade to Alpha 5 as
soon as it becomes available (tomorrow I believe).

I have been reporting application crashes via apport/launchpad.
