There's SDL and SDL_mixer which are quite cross platform. fmod's producers should consider GPL, it really worked for QT, people will be allowed to do 'commercial' stuff but always following the GPL, if they want to make proprietary things then they would have to get a commercial license from fmod, so it will still work like now, yet fmod will be OSS.
