After some work on this, I have concluded that this is a duplicate of bug 66702. I think the nxclient/nxserver errors were unrelated to the mysql error. I was able to get rid of the nxclient/nxserver following the directions for removing jedit after synaptic fails that I came across here: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_remove_jedit_when_Synaptic_package_manager_fails_after_install
