Some additional info. Gimp does not appear to be the cause of the crash. I've had another lockup of the Xserver with the desktop empty. No screensaver was selected or active at the time. The only activity appears to be from the auto-update manager trying to open a message box saying there were updates available. The mouse still moved the cursor, but the system ignored any mouse clicks or console switches. I was able to regain control of the system by telneting in and killing the X11 processes, then using the alt+sysrq+r magic keystroke to get back to a console.
I had started X from a console window and piped the console messages to a log file. The log captured X11 segfaulting and producing a backtrace of the crash. I've attached the log so that maybe someone could use it to see what's happening. ** Attachment added: "log of X11 messages as it crashed." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17213528/x.log -- Gimp causes X11 to crash and/or lock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260262 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
