Thank you for keeping an eye on this annoying bug.

I did the upgrade to 2.6.27:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a
Linux helios 2.6.27-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Aug 28 17:20:02 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Unfortunately the problem remains, my system does not suspend.
Choosing "Suspend" from the log-off menu just brings up the password-window (as 
if "lock screen" was selected), as originally posted.

>From the command line I get:
