Yes, I still have this problem and I believe this must be fixed before Ubuntu 8.10 goes into Beta with a broader range of users.
I am using a Toshiba Tecra M2 with a GeForce FX Go5200 32M/64M. I downloaded the ISO file from the daily build of August 29, 2008 in order to make sure that the upgrades from an earlier build to the current build is not the root cause of this problem. First: The graphics on my screen look blury. The graphic cards driver sees that I have a 1024x768 screen, but I can hardly read the characters. This is the main reason why I accept the offer made by the system to install propriety nvidia drivers. Second: I choose the 173. driver from the propriety drivers menu - same as with Ubuntu 8.04. After rebooting Xorg server does not recognize the nvidia driver in the kernel. xorg.conf has the nvidia driver set together with the right resolution settings. Now the mess begins. Here is what I did: I removed all nvidia drivers and depending packages and the linux-restricted components from my system, using Synaptic. In the Xorg setup I chose the nv driver and a 800 x 600 (1024 x 768: can't read the characters anymore). Then I installed only the 173. nvidia driver and linux-restricted with Synaptic. After that I had to edit the xorg.conf file: I had to delete all original settings for the nv driver and for the monitor. The new settings were already there and they conflicted a bit with the old settings. 2008/8/30 Niels Egberts <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > On my computer this bug has been fixed, I can install both drivers just > fine. > > Are there still people having problems? > > -- > nvidia driver fail to load in ibex > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262074 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of a duplicate bug. > -- nvidia driver fail to load in ibex https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262074 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
