Public bug reported: I'm using onboard S/PDIF on my ASUS P5E-VM to connect the desktop to my amp. Rhythmbox doesn't play at all when selecting ALSA in the audio control applet under System -> Preferences -> Audio so I had to use OSS and select IEC 958 in the volume control applet to get any sound at all. The volume applet can only be used to mute the sound then, I can't control the volume as I previously could with my Audigy2.
