Starting xev and placing my mouse in it before suspend, then watching what happens on keypresses after resume, what I see is that after some resumes, if the first key I press is the left control key, I see that reported as *two* KeyPress events, the first for Control_R, the second for Control_L. Thereafter it reports key events as if the control key were held down (regardless of whether it is). If I press and release the right control key, the keypress is ignored, but the release is reported. Therefore pressing the right control key is a workaround that clears the problem.
