Thanks for the report and all attached information. Is it possible for
you to try out hardy and/or intrepid? But anyway I have marked the bug
confirmed and let the developers handle it from here. Thanks again.

** Summary changed:

- Very slow wired ethernet speeds
+ [nForce MCP67] Very slow wired ethernet speeds

** Description changed:

Hardware has Marvell 88E8116 (1000 Mbps)ethernet adapter. Extremely fast
under XP Professional (machine is dual boot with Gutsy).
  1. All Unbuntu OS updates as of 12/31/07 applied.
  2. All fixes under all posts added (IPV6, DNS, etc; no effect)
  3. During a Synaptic download, I'm getting about 35Kbs. (Attached to a cable
modem which is measuring 12 Mbs with XP.)

I'm ruling out anything DNS related because after a connection is
established and a download begins, the same low speeds are constant. In
reviewing other posts, this problem seems to be related to Gutsy since
many users are not reporting it earlier releases.

Any suggestions will be greated appreciated, since having a system
bottleneck with broadband connectivity is a real "show stopper" for my
  applications.
