Apparently, relative to the breakage of wireless functionality (I have iwp2200 and linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic (2.6.24-21.31) did break my wireless), the latest update to linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic (2.6.24-21.30) to 2.6.24-21.32 and kernel update fixed the problem.
