I'm having exactly the same problem. if I open a folder and I try to move any file from desktop to home, nautilus hangs for several seconds and gives me an "error while copying file" But if I cancel the process and I try again, everything is fine. I have KDE/Gnome desktops installed (ubuntu 8.04.01) But this happens with Gnome only.
