Does this still apply for KDE 4? I assume since there is no media:/ slave and KDE reduced the complexity of the whole media mount/unmount component this should at least behave better.
By the way, media:/ wasn't designed with NFS in mind, the KDE point of view is that you use remote:/ to get forwarded to the NFS KIO slave and don't mount the share at all.
