Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with latest updates and th "proposed" packages. When i am loading the 2.6.24-21-generic kernel and rund hdparm -tT i get something like this: /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 7328 MB in 1.99 seconds = 3674.30 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 98 MB in 3.05 seconds = 32.11 MB/sec
If i am loading the 2.6.24-21-server kernel i get constantly more or less the same spee in "Timing cache reads" but in "Timing buffered disk reads" it is the DOUBLE speed. I already tried to find the diffrence in the kernel but didn`t find it. Sind i feel a great improvement in the responsiveness of the generic kernel (which has preemting enabled and so on) but has has such poor performance on the disk reads , i would like to have both:) My system is a Dell D830 Latitude Laptop with 4GB Ram and a WD 160GB hard disk. If i can help with further information , please let me know. Thanks for any help. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- disk reads are only half the speed compared to "server" kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
