Public bug reported:

I decided to upgrade from kubuntu gutsy to kubuntu hardy. Doing so, I ran in
to bug 249340
(Gutsy->Hardy upgrade hangs in localedef). Killing localedef worked, and I
thought hardy was running fine. However, then it turned out that it failed to
configure a few packages:

 hal
 kubuntu-desktop
 network-manager
 kde-guidance-powermanager
 hal-cups-utils
 network-manager-kde
 system-config-printer-kde

(I really need kde-guidance-powermanager, I didn't try to play DVD's
yet.) I get:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up hal (0.5.11~rc2-1ubuntu8.2) ...
 * Reloading system message bus config...
                                                      [ OK ]
 * Starting Hardware abstraction layer hald
                                                             invoke-rc.d:
initscript hal, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing hal (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

I don't know what further information to provide, please ask...

Martin
