So, there's a workaround for hal that worked for some but not for
others. What about the kernel side of the issue, is there a
workaround/patch worth trying?

I need to know what to suggest to a friend that's facing this problem,
but I don't have her media player to test it myself. If one was to
revert to gutsy's kernel, and remain in hardy's version of hal, would
the problem go away?
