Steve, you're right . This minimal patch don't sync the permissions of the files in /etc/aide/aide.conf.d with those in /usr/share/aide/config/aide/aide.conf.d/ . I haven't found any satisfying solution to sync modes and preserve user changes (if any) in /etc/aide/aide.conf.d/ .
