vino, the same vnc server on ubuntu can be installed/configured on
xubuntu with 3 commands:

sudo aptitude install vino
vino-preferences
/usr/lib/vino/vino-server &&

/usr/lib/vino/vino-server needs to be added to auto start-up

or you could ln -s /usr/lib/vino/vino-server /usr/bin/vino-server
and then just use vino-server to start it

ok, so it's not the easiest solution.  xubuntu almost always seems more
difficult :[
