It's a hard guess then. The log file doesn't show other evidence. You can try to disable the splash screen in order to see what's happening during boot and why the boot process stops.
To do that, as root, edit the file /boot/grub/menu.lst ,go to the line with "# defoptions=quiet splash" and remove "quiet splash", save and quit then run "sudo update-grub" You'll see the boot process running, when the "hang" occurs supply a digital photo of the screen.
