I'm facing exactly the same problem. But OO only crashes on Linux (Kubuntu/Edgy openoffice.org 2.0.4-0ubuntu2, Mon Oct 16 01:14:49 UTC 2006). When I use OO under Windows, it doesn't crash in the same image manipulation.
