I believe I see the same problem. Mine occurs when I put "Patton" (the DVD) into the DVD drive when running Sun's virtualbox with windows XP professional inside. The crash occurs on a second X server, started via ctrl-alt-F3 and "startx -- :1".
But, in the end, it's X that crashes on Ubuntu 8.04. I attach the log file. After the crash, the other X server (ctl-alt-f7) remains OK. Hitting ctl-alt-F3 takes you back to the crashed server's console. Mouse works on the other (:0, ctl-alt-f7) server, but the :1 server is dead, and terminated. On the terminal, just before the backtrace, you got some lines which may be relevant: "expected keysym, got XF86kbdBrightnessUp: line 72 of pc SetClientVersion: 0 9 " $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release: 8.04 $ $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.6 Candidate: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.6 Version table: *** 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.6 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu12 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy/free Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/packages.medibuntu.org_dists_hardy_free_binary-i386_Packages) W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://packages.medibuntu.org hardy/non-free Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/packages.medibuntu.org_dists_hardy_non-free_binary-i386_Packages) $ $ lspci -nn | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2572] (rev 02) $ ** Attachment added: "Xorg.1.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16842027/Xorg.1.log -- 950G Fatal server error when minimizing window or starting video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225519 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
