Thank you for the bug report. Let me see if I got the scenario correct: you're running Ubuntu Dapper (gnome). Then you install kword but an icon doesn't appear in the applications menu.
I mention this because this bug is linked from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EdgyKnownIssues but the wording makes me believe that this is a Dapper bug. Was this on Edgy or Dapper? Could you please describe this bug in a bit more detail?
