Why are you trying to run fsck from a terminal window in the first
place?

And it would have warned you that you were doing something dangerous:

% sudo fsck
[sudo] password for tytso:
fsck 1.41.0 (10-Jul-2008)
e2fsck 1.41.0 (10-Jul-2008)
/dev/mapper/thunk-root is mounted.

WARNING!!! Running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem may cause
SEVERE filesystem damage.

Do you really want to continue (y/n)?

And finally, why do you think this is a security problem? This looks
like PEBKAC issue...

Status in “e2fsprogs” source package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
I install a new System (32 or 64Bit) on any PC/Notebook.
I make all updates.
After finsh that I restart the System. NOW I open a Terminal and Type
"sudo FSCK" and press return.
FSCK finds one or more errors an clear that. Nice BUT(!!!!) after an system
restart FSCK runs again at startup and breakdown by ~70%.
The System says: I must run FSCK manuell. So I do that. NOW:
FSCK finds over 25.000 of Errors. I repair this. After that I must restart the
Systen again.

So now all data are distroy!

I have this problem 4x tested and It was everyone the same.
